Surprise!

Hey folks! I'm back! At least for now, that is. Anyhows, a lot has happened since the months that I've started teaching and what have you! A lot of things changed. But enough of that. Let's talk about the things that DIDN'T change:

1. I still don't have a girlfriend;
2. I'm still a bum (more so than ever);
3. I still spend too little (read: too much) time for my DVD animes and Nintendo DS games;
4. I'm still handsome and hot.

So, there you go. Buh-bye!

P.S. WHEN IS OUR OUT-OF-TOWN GIMMICK!!!???

Somber no Longer

For the longest time in my life, I’ve never felt this kind of emptiness inside me. It is like I have lost a part of me, a big part of who I am. I know I was not this boring before or never was I melancholic as I am now… Until last Saturday. I just realized it when Rod, Ryu and I went to Shao’s house for the unveiling of the “surprise” (at least for Ryu and Rod since I knew what the surprise was). And can you believe we did not go there to drink… Well Ryu, Shao and I had a bottle of Red Horse each anyway.

I digress… To get back on where I was going, Shao told us a few months back he will be getting a console supposedly last week. The surprise was the kind of console he would be getting, we talked about what would suit Shao best and we kind of decided the X-Box 360 would be best for Shao, so I think Ryu and Rod assumed that Shao would be getting a 360. So when we went upstairs to Shao’s room, Shao handed a controller to Rod. It was wireless and the Playstation logo in the middle. Rod did not understand what was going on at the moment until I showed him the console itself… Playstation3.

I could not wait to try it out, so I tried out Shao’s only RPG he has, which is Enchanted Arms. It was pretty good but not the type of kick-ass intense graphics and game play I was expecting from a PS3 game. I handed the controller to Ryu so that he too could try it out. He played Call of duty 3 which was not a far cry from the PS2 version. It was better alright, although not that much. Oh, I forgot to mention that Shao was downloading the demo version of Devil May Cry 4 before we came to his house. Now that is the kind of game I wanted to play ever since I saw the trailer in youtube.

After a few hours of waiting, we got to play Devil May Cry 4. I’ve never felt so alive and kickin’ in my life. Once I defeated the boss in the demo version, I felt so euphoric. That was when I realized that I’ve not played a console in like a year, more or less. Sure, I’ve played Ryu’s Nintendo DS but a portable console is still different from a real console (not to degrade the DS, I love it). I guess the thrill I felt from playing the DS was only to cover the void my PS2 left when she conked out, or cracked her lens, whatever. I guess the DS was just a rebound console that I have come to love with the absence of a console at home. I have now found the reason for living… TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES!!!

Thanks to last Saturday, I want to buy a PS3 and a Nintendo Wii. Now I know the reason for my sadness and pain the past year. If I could just have a console at home, I could give up loving the DS that was never mine and move on to other things, hopefully better things. Although I would still want to borrow it from time to time Ryu. Hehehe…

So, thank you Shao for giving us the opportunity to play with your PS3, let me know when we can go to your house again, I’ll be courting your PS3. Nyahaha!!! Oh, and Shao, feel free to post updates here about your PS3 like new games, gadgets and stuff. Until next time guys, CYA!!!

How about a shave?

Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber from fleet street

“There was a barber and his wife, and she was beautiful. A foolish barber and his wife, she was his reason and his life, and she was beautiful. And she was virtuous. And he was— Naive. There was another man who saw that she was beautiful, A pious vulture of the law, who with a gesture of his claw removed the barber from his plate. Then there was nothing but to wait and she would fall, so soft, so young, so lost, and oh, so beautiful!”

Above are the lyrics to the first song in the movie, No place like London. This is the basic premise of the whole movie and the reason for Sweeney Todd’s (Johnny Depp) angst and rage. A young barber named Benjamin Barker lived happily with his wife Lucy and daughter Johanna. But the despicable Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) fell in love with Barker’s wife and wrongfully accused Barker of a crime he never committed and was sent to Australia

Sweeney Todd has arrived, another Tim Burton movie starring real-life Tim Burton character Johnny Depp… You can never go wrong there, even now with the addition of another real-life Tim Burton character, Helena Bonham Carter. A movie full of Vengeance, death, and blood blended ever so brilliantly with the vivid songs from the original musical. So, the movie is basically a Tim Burton movie with singing and dancing. Still not enticed? Add two Harry Potter Death Eaters Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) and Peter Pettigrew played by (Timothy Spall) into the mix and you get probably one of the most macabre movie in history. Oh, and don’t forget the best meat pies in London. Yup, this movie will make you lick your lips the next time you see a meat pie.

The lowered contrasts of the background and semi-gothic make-up of the main characters put together with the vibrant and bright red of blood, the Tim Burton exaggerated blood to be exact sets the dark and eerie mood of the movie. The cinematography was sheer genius with the shadowy effects which allowed Burton to capture 19th century London.

Johnny Depp surprised the world with a merciless performance and decent singing voice that complemented the deep and daunting voice of Alan Rickman. Of course, Helena Bonham Carter would not be out-staged since this was not her first musical with Tim Burton either. Sacha Baron Cohen also shares his musical talent and humor to this already morbidly star-studded film.

The impression of this film is so powerful. The Protagonists and anti-heroes of the movie have been is one way or anther, scorned while the bad guys are vile and malevolent to the core. All these play out together in a juncture, a stage in which rules out decorum and sympathy.

Just a word of caution: This film is not a children’s film. Mind you, you will see blood and gore that will make Kill Bill seem like a long episode of Barney the purple dinosaur (Ok, I exaggerated but you get my drift). This movie will send chills down your spine, in more than one way.

I'll admit it! Excessive drinking can be hazardous to everyone's health! It can be particularly stressful if you are the sober one taking care of your drunk friend, who is vomiting while you are trying to study for an exam, or maybe the sober one to drive them after a drinking binge at a friend's bar. Woops, got too specific there.

What's even more stressful is when someone does this act inside someone's precious interior... like a car, for instance. I won't go into details anymore... But I hope this person does find a time in his busy schedule to apologize... and learn.

For the members of this blog, do find the time to vent.

NAX tomorrow at 8pm!!!

looking forward to 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! So it's been a few weeks since anyone posted anything in this blog and I've been aching to write something but I've got nothing to write about. Well, I'm here already so I think what I'll do now is recap the good things that happened in 2007 and see what's up for 2008.

Top 10 best anime (That I watched) for 2007:

10.) Hitohira (Can't add anything else... Loli)
9.) Sola ( Quite funny, cute)
8.) Lucky Star (Loli)
7.) Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula (Mecha)
6.) Hellsing Ultimate
5.) Claymore ( Shounen, Action)
4.) Code Geass (Death note meets Full Metal Panic! meets Gundam SEED)
3.) Romeo X Juliet ( Shakespearean and action)
2.) Gundam 00 (Although this one will finish in 2008)
and the best anime in 2007 is...
1.) Darker than black... - How can it not be?

Ok, so 2007 was somewhat quite of a disappointment in the anime biz because most of their releases were all lolis (Cute little girls) that have no point, though some of them were funny ( e.g Lucky star).

Thing to watch out for in 2008:

10.) Code Geass sequel
9.) Dragon Ball Live action Movie
8.) The rebuild of Evangelion (Hopefully)
7.) Devil may Cry 4
6.) Star Wars: The Force unleashed
5.) Gunslinger Girls season 2
4.) Continuation of Gundam 00
3.) Metal Gear Solid 4
2.) Final Fantasy XIII
1.) Super Smash Brothers: Brawl
... If only I had a console... huhuhu...

then to update my Top 10 anime list ever:

10.) Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu
9.) Ergo Proxy
8.) Fate/Stay Night
7.) Full Metal Panic!
6.) Evangelion
5.) Dragon Ball Z
4.) Rurouni Kenshin
3.) Death Note
2.) Mushishi
1.) Full Metal Alchemist

Maybe the only person who will gain anything out of this is Ryu since he is the only one aside from me who is an anime freak but who cares right?
